Pat Halpern has been an active, full-time Big Island real estate agent since 1989. She has taken advantage of extra education by obtaining her Broker's license in 1992 and completing designations such as the GRI (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute) in 1993, the CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) in 2003 and the SRS (Seller’s Realtor Specialist) in 2014. She also supports the Realtor community by serving on committees for the Board and is currently the 2017 President for Hawaii Island Realtors.
Before moving to Hawaii, Pat graduated from Colorado State University and then embarked on a teaching career. She taught English as a Foreign Language in Thailand for the Peace Corps and later worked as a Teacher Trainer for Peace Corps Training in Hilo and the Defense Language Institute in Saigon, S. Vietnam. In 1971, she received her Montessori Teacher Certification and worked as a teacher, school director and Teacher Trainer for Chaminade University until 1989.
Currently a resident of Volcano Village, Pat is also mother to Casey Halpern, Executive Chef at Café Pesto/Hilo Bay, and Joel Halpern, an actor-turned-Volcano-farmer, as well as grandmother to 5 grandchildren! Free time finds Pat participating with the Volcano Community Association on the Volcano Long Range Plan, helping with historic home tours as a Board member of the Volcano Community Foundation whose mission is to increase awareness of the history of Volcano while raising scholarship funds for local college bound students or watching one of the grandkids sporting events.
