Pat Halpern has been an active, full-time Big Island real estate agent since 1989. She has taken advantage of extra education by obtaining her Broker's license (1992) and completing designations such as the GRI (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute), CRS (Certified Residential Specialist), SRS (Seller Representative Specialist)and most recently the GREEN Designation. She also supports the REALTOR® community by serving on committees for the Board as well as serving as President for Hawaii Island REALTORS® in 2017. Pat was recently recognized as 2019 REALTOR® of the Year by her fellow agents at Hawaii Island REALTORS®.
Before moving to Hawaii, Pat graduated from Colorado State University and then embarked on a teaching career. She taught English as a Foreign Language in Thailand for the Peace Corps and later worked as a Teacher Trainer for Peace Corps Training in Hilo and the Defense Language Institute in Saigon, S. Vietnam. In 1971, she received her Montessori Teacher Certification and worked as a teacher, school director and Teacher Trainer for Chaminade University until 1989.
Currently a resident of Volcano Village, Pat is active in community activities and currently serves on the Board of the Volcano Community Foundation whose mission is to increase awareness of the history of Volcano while raising scholarship funds for local college-bound students.
Pat has two children—Casey Halpern, Executive Chef at Café Pesto/Hilo Bay, and Joel Halpern, a Volcano farmer sustainably raising Ohelo berries for jams and sauces. She is also the proud grandmother to five grandchildren and free time usually finds her watching the grandkids’ sporting events. Go Viks!
